Chivite
– Since 1647 –
The Chivite family’s winemaking tradition dates back to 1647, and the winery is currently managed by the 11th generation. After more than 375 years of experience in a privileged landscape, the winery is part of the history of Spanish wine, with iconic labels such as Colección 125.
J. Chivite holds a deep respect for this environment, applying sustainable farming methods throughout the estate. Herbicides are avoided to prevent erosion, and the use of pesticides is kept to an absolute minimum.
Sustainable Vineyards, Refined Expression
Finca Legardeta is a 245-hectare estate in Villatuerta, about 40 km southwest of Pamplona, with 103 hectares of vineyards integrated naturally with woodland and scrubland. Unlike most Spanish regions shaped by a Mediterranean climate, Legardeta enjoys a strong Atlantic-Continental influence, with mild summers, pronounced day–night temperature swings, and around 600 mm of rainfall annually. These conditions allow grapes to ripen slowly and evenly, producing wines that are fresh, elegant, and well-coloured. The estate sits at 450 m in a geologically complex zone between the Pyrenees and the Ebro Basin, with loamy soils over calcareous-sandstone bedrock and rolling slopes up to 20%, giving each plot distinct exposure and character.

Vineyards were planted with minimal environmental impact, respecting slopes, soil horizons, and natural vegetation. Traditional ploughing is replaced by plant cover, enhancing soil structure, microbial activity, and nutrient renewal, while crop protection uses low-impact methods that preserve beneficial fauna. With a planting density of 6,000 vines per hectare — the highest in Spain — Legardeta maximises leaf surface area and reduces yield per vine, resulting in grapes with greater colour, structure, and overall quality.

Excellence in Spanish Wines
Chivite wines have often featured in Estate events and remain among the best wines of Spain to this day.
In 1999, the Chivite Colección 125 Blanco 1997, under the direction of Denis Dubourdieu (oenology professor at the University of Bordeaux and winemaker for houses such as Château d’Yquem and Château Cheval Blanc), was chosen as the best white wine in the world by Sibaritas magazine. In the blind tasting organized by the publication, Spanish white wines were evaluated against a selection of 23 of the world’s greatest whites.

Wines
Las fincas
Las Fincas Blanco 2024
Las Fincas Blanco 2024 is an expressive wine made from Garnacha Blanca. Using the saignée method, the free-run juice is collected and fermented entirely in stainless steel tanks. Subsequent ageing on the lees is essential to achieving its delicate expression on the palate. It shows high aromatic intensity and balance, with floral notes, white stone fruit, and a subtle citrus and herbal background. The palate is fresh, with a creamy, slightly sweet entry and a voluminous mouthfeel, leading to a long, refreshing finish.

Las Fincas Rosado 2024
Las Fincas Rosado 2023 is a gastronomic rosé made using the “sangrado” method from Garnacha and Tempranillo grapes. Like all wines in the Las Fincas range, it was created through a collaboration between Chivite and Spanish chef Arzak to develop wines suited to gastronomy. This wine involves a complex production process and is a clear example of the precision required to craft a high-quality rosé. The aim is to achieve a subtle balance between structure and finesse: a fresh wine with a complex nose dominated by discreet, elegant red fruit, along with hints of white fruit and flowers.

Legardeta state
Finca Legardeta Garnacha 2019
Finca Legardeta Garnacha 2019 shows a fine balance between a full-bodied fruit profile and fresh, well-integrated acidity. The freshness is influenced by the Atlantic-continental climate, while the ripe fruit character reveals notes of red berries and baked apple. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and aged in French oak barrels for ten months.

Finca Legardeta Chardonnay 2024
Finca Legardeta Chardonnay 2024 shows typicity, character, and finesse. The grapes are hand-harvested to ensure they arrive intact at the winery, where they are carefully sorted. After a short maceration, the grapes are gently pressed. Once settled, the resulting must is transferred into stainless steel vats or French oak barrels, where it ferments and remains on its lees for about five months.

Colección 125 Reserva Vino de Guarda 2019
Colección 125 Reserva Vino de Guarda 2019 is made entirely from Tempranillo. The Legardeta Estate lies at the geographical limit for cultivating this variety and is, in fact, the northernmost area in Spain where Tempranillo is grown. Low-fertility soils, balanced vegetation, and slow ripening lead to small clusters with excellent ripeness and acidity. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and then transferred to French oak barrels for 15–18 months. This wine shows finesse and offers remarkable cellaring potential.

Colección 125 Blanco 2021
Colección 125 Blanco 2021 comes from a selection of grapes sourced from a single plot known as “Las Mercedes,” located on a north-facing slope with clay-loam soils at an altitude of 480 metres. Thanks to this location, combined with the influence of an Atlantic-continental climate, the Chardonnay variety ripens gradually, avoiding dehydration or an excessive increase in potential alcohol, while preserving excellent acidity, aromatic potential, and expressiveness. The grapes are hand-harvested and placed in crates to ensure they arrive intact at the winery, where they are sorted. After a short maceration, they are pressed at low pressure. Only the highest-quality free-run must is used, which is then transferred into 225-litre barrels, where it ferments and ages on its lees for about a year.

Colección 125 Rosado de Guarda 2023
Colección 125 Rosado de Guarda 2023 comes from three distinctive plots. “Caracierzo,” at 450 metres in altitude, is planted with Garnacha vines over forty years old; “La Zamaca” hosts young Syrah vines; and “Musquildia” is home to Tempranillo vines, also over forty years old, which benefit from a unique microclimate that allows them to express their full potential. The grapes are hand-harvested and, after a brief maceration, the must is extracted using the traditional bleeding method. It is then transferred to French oak barrels, where it ferments and matures on its fine lees for six months. It displays intense aromas of raspberry and pomegranate, alongside notes of cumin, liquorice, sandalwood, dried flowers, butter, and an earthy background. The palate is fleshy and voluminous, with an initial creamy texture and hints of toasted nuts. The finish is fresh and persistent, enhanced by citrus and aniseed notes.
