Masia de la Rocua

Masia de la Roqua

Our philosophy
Olivella is a small charming village right in the middle of the Massís del
Garraf (“massís describes an irregular chain of mountains”). The town is located 30km west of Barcelona and 50km north of Tarragona.
The objective of Masia de la Roqua is to grow wines that identify themselves with the land, that reflect their particular location, in the Massís del Garraf, with a singular soil, a distinct climatology, the influence of the Mediterranean sea, the forest, the vegetation… all in all, that express a differentiated terroir.

Varietals and plots
The vine, for us, is the most important element. It is her that produces the grapes, and
we should respect and take care of it.
The Massís del Garraf is a mountainous range between Barcelona and Tarragona. To the north, it limits with L’Ordal mountain chain and, to the south, with the Mediterranean sea.
The mountains, often higher than 500m above the sea level, are calcareous and have a
great number of holes and caves. In between, flow several small torrents and streams. It is
within this landscape that lay our vines.

The forest is a loyal companion of our vineyards. Many plots are in direct contact with the forest, fostering the interaction between each other and contributing to the great biodiversity we find in our property.
In addition, none of our vineyards is contiguous with those of other producers.

In the Masia de la Roqua we have a great diversity of White varietals: Macabeu, Xarel·lo, Parellada, Malvasia de Sitges, Muscat of small grain, Muscat of big grain.
Red varietals: Sumoll, Ull de llebre, Garnatxa Negre, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Marselan.
From all of them, we pick the plots that we consider the best, typically with autochthonous varietals, to prepare our wines.
To select the best plots, we leverage more than 15 years or monitored ripening controls performed in our vineyards.
