CINCO LEGUAS
Marc Isaart
“5 Leagues” stands for “locality”. In 16th century Spain, it was the distance that
guaranteed the right to supply the wine to the court in Madrid
This project is a story of self-commitment. A place where I can share my experience and knowledge, gained in other regions, which suffered similar neglect, but are now flourishing. The necessity to freely express the passion that I have developed for this ancient trade. To make a humble wine in this humble place. Making wines to quench the thirst.
Also, this is a commitment to the place where I have grown up and matured, in the subzone of Arganda in Madrid, protecting our old vines from abandonment.
Old vines of Tinto Fino ,Malvar and Torrontés de Madrid(Alarije) is what we can find at the vineyards. Dry, old, impoverished vines, survivors of heat stroke and drough in an extreme continental climate with some Mediterranean influences and an average precipitation of only 450 mm per year.
The fields of red and white earth, containing clays and gypsum, with a loamy clayey texture. Is the land of Tinajas (amphoras), made from the same clay that supports the crops.
The vineyards are treated organically. The wines follows the same principles and are honest expression of the land and vintage. Minimal intervention, wild fermented and low additions of SO2. Coarse or no filtartion is to be expected on all this wines.
