A Historic Family Vineyard in Rioja Alavesa
The Villota project is based on the family vineyard located at the San Rafael Estate in Laserna. The property is privileged and home to some of the most iconic vines in Rioja Alavesa. It comprises three large vine terraces, stretching from the slopes of Mediterranean scrubland down to the banks of the Ebro River. The property was purchased in 1930 by Carmen’s grandfather. From 1950, the grapes were sold to CVNE for the production of the Imperial line. As a result, in 1974 the Villota family became co-owners of Contino, Rioja’s first single-estate winery. After nearly 40 years, the family parted ways with Contino to begin a new project.
A Sense of place
Carmen Villota, together with Antón Aranzadi and legendary winemaker Jesús Madrazo, decided to express the identity and character of their vines. Villota sought elegance and balance: wines that recall the taste and paradigm of classic examples that convey a sense of place and are suitable for collecting and cellaring. Elegant yet modern wines, created for a new generation of Rioja luxury enthusiasts.
WINES
Selvanevada Tinto 2021
Selvanevada Tinto 2021 is made from 82% Tempranillo, 9% Graciano, 2% Garnacha, 4% Mazuela, and 3% white varietals. The Selvanevada line is the easiest to understand and portrays the landscape, the sun, and the essence of the vineyard. The wine matures for six months in French oak and shows plum, blackberry, and strawberry notes, with herbal nuances and a chalky mineral palate. The drinking window is 2024–2031.

Selvanevada Blanco 2022
Selvanevada Blanco 2022 is made from 91% Viura, 6% White Tempranillo, and 3% White Garnacha. After destemming, the grapes undergo a short skin maceration, are fermented in stainless steel, and then aged for six months in 225- and 500-litre French and Hungarian oak barrels, with weekly bâtonnage. The wine shows lime and green apple notes, with chalky hazelnut hints, and is complex and fresh with mineral nuances.

Villota Tinto 2021
Villota Tinto 2021 is made from 85% Tempranillo, 13% Graciano, and 2% Garnacha. The Villota line focuses on gastronomic quality, excellence, balance, energy, and an ethereal structure. The wine is aged for 16 months in French oak and shows great acidity with outstanding pairing potential. Black, red, and blue berry notes are complemented by herbal and mineral nuances. The palate is extremely elegant, with fine tannins and mouthwatering acidity, combining energy and structure.

Villota Blanco 2022
Villota Blanco 2022 is made from 85% Viura, 11% Garnacha Blanca, 2% Malvasía Riojana, and 2% White Tempranillo. The wine is fermented and aged in French oak barrels. Medium-plus bodied, it shows white fruit, marzipan, and floral notes. The palate is spicy and textured, with fine tannins from the barrel, a refreshing core, and a chalky finish. The oak aging contributes both to the wine’s tannic structure and its overall texture.

Viña Gena 2021
Viña Gena 2021 is a single-vineyard wine made entirely from Tempranillo grown on a plot planted in 1930. A delicate, beautiful, and timeless wine, it has been deemed “our best vintage yet” by Jesús Madrazo. Beautifully and sumptuously matured in French oak, it expresses what is most singular about this estate in the Meandro de San Rafael. The wine shows refined tannins, pronounced chalky minerality, rose petal and Mediterranean herb aromas, bramble and mulberry fruit, and racy freshness. Drinking window: 2025–2035. TA 9.

Mazuelo
Villota Mazuelo 2021. 100% Mazuelo from the Corazón vineyard, planted in goblet formation in 1985. Hand picked grapes fermented in stainless steel and matured 10 months in French oak. Great acidity and amazing pairing potential. The delicacy of blue flowers and the essence of rose petals. Very well assembled, warm and sweet spices and fruity finish. Very elegant.
